The military version of the vehicle was homologated as the R 2087. It came with even greater ground clearance than the standard vehicle and was built, featuring four-wheel drive, from 1952. A range of vans, with or without extra side-windows, and truck variations was produced. Notably, the military ambulance version was produced until 1969, several years after Renault had stopped offering civilian versions of the van. | The French flathead V8 is the result of one of the Ford Motor Company’s many licensing and joint-venture agreements with foreign countries in the first half of the 20th Century. Ford, in collaboration with the French company Mathis , operating as Matford , produced a car called the Matford Vedette which in its late form was powered with a Ford V8-60 . In 1954 Ford merged their entire French operations with Simca and retained a 15 percent share until 1958 when they sold even that. Simca continued to build the V8-60 powered cars until 1960 when they were acquired by Chrysler who subsequently moved production of the Vedette to Brazil.- Full-size Ford flatheads (239 cid and 255 cid) were manufactured by the Ford-Simca operation beginning in the early ‘50s for use in French military vehicles, and most usually in a 4 x 4 truck known as the SUMB (Simca Unic Marmon Bocquet) , Simca Unic for short. It was a very strong H-D platform that was built in a number of forms, including a troop transport truck, fuel tanker, airfield fire truck, mobile communications center – a true general-purpose vehicle that would serve the French military well for nearly four decades by the time it was decommissioned in the ‘90s |

The Brimont BRUTT truck was developed to meet a number of military and commercial roles that vary from front-line cargo carrier and ambulance to forestry and fire fighting. The BRUTT has a forward control cab with a horizontal wedge front profile. Seating is provided in the cab for the driver and one passenger and the cab can be tilted forward for maintenance. The cab may have a hard or soft top with the hard top version having provision to fit a roof hatch for access to a light machine gun mounting.The axles are of the Brimont rigid type with optional lockable differentials. Coil springs are used for the front suspension and spring leaves at the rear. Anti-roll bars are fitted front and rear. Various forms of gearbox can be fitted. The standard manual gearbox is supplied by ZF, although a Peugeot gearbox will permit higher speeds. If the vehicle is to be used for towing light weapons, such as a 105 mm howitzer or 120 mm mortar, it is recommended |
