Crowley All Terrain Corporation (CATCO), a company that specialized in transporting supplies and personnel in the Arctic. Crowley has also developed a unique system for transporting cargos and personnel to remote road less areas, across Alaska's fragile arctic tundra, using specialized all-terrain vehicles called CATCOs that essentially float across the fragil tundra with low-pressure air bags. These tires help distribute the weight over a large area thus minimizing terrain impact. Crowley operation areas extend from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska to the Gulf of Mexico to Sakhalin Island in the Russia Far East.

This vehicle was designed and built in just 9 weeks at the request of the Army Transportation Corp. in 1953. Crowley All Terrain Corporation (CATCO) , a company that specialized in transporting supplies and personnel in the Arctic, through all sorts of weather, over all sorts of terrain, was also organized in 1975. That was also the year of the worst ice conditions of the century faced by the Prudhoe Bay sealift flotilla, freezing in a number of the barges. Two additional Crowley companies were formed in 1975: Crowley Maritime Salvage and Global Transport Organization (GTO). GTO, formed jointly with two Canadian companies, was designed to perform tug and barge transportation services internationally, and was particularly active in the Arabian Gulf during Saudi Arabia's large-scale push toward industrialization. CATCO all-terrain vehicles were first acquired in 1975 for remote off-road transportation in support of the oil industry. CATCO vehicles use low-pressure air bag tires to travel over the tundra without damaging it.
