The FAW is a Chinese state-owned automotive manufacturing company. To meet this requirement the FAW developed a new family of tactical military trucks with 4x4 and 6x6 configurations. It is worth noting that recently Chinese army issued a number of requirements for various new-generation trucks. In 2011 the FAW MV3 military truck has been adopted by Chinese army. It will replace a whole host of older 4x4 and 6x6 military trucks. Some sources report that MV3 trucks have been ordered by North Korea.

Throughout the 1950s, the Soviet Army helped China to build up their heavy industries. As part of this plan, China established the First Automobile Works (FAW) in Changchun Northern China. Soon after, in July 1956, they introduced the Jiefang CA-10 4x2 army truck, a copy of the Russian ZIS-150 model. In 1958-1959 the first 6X6 CA-30 lorries for the People's Republic of China army were introduced and made by the then called FAW Jiefang company.
