he M35 started out in 1949 as a design by the REO Motor Car Company as a 2 1/2 ton three axle all wheel drive off road truck that was later nicknamed the “deuce and a half”. The first vehicle in the family, the M34, was quickly superseded in military usage by the M35, the major difference being the M35’s 10-tire configuration versus the M34’s 6-tire configuration.

Technically, the only C-2's were the Corbitt, Biederman, and Federal 7-1/2 ton wreckers built for the USAAF. There were other similar trucks built for other branches of the services, but they were not designated as C-2's. Corbitt, Biederman, Federal, and Reo also built the F-1 fuel tanker semi tractor, which had a nearly identical cab and chassis to the C-2. The Federal F-1 was a model 605, the Reo a 29XS, and the Corbitt a 54SD6. The Federal and Reo 7-1/2 tonners are nearly identical.

During WWII Reo built Studebaker designed US6 2-1/2 ton trucks for the war effort. After WWII Reo in 1949 Reo designed and built 5,000 1-1/2 ton 6 wheel trucks designated as the M34 and known for a while as the "Eager Beaver" due to its ability to ford rivers and streams. The M34 was quickly replaced by the 10 wheel M35 that was produced by Reo, General Motors , Studebaker , Kaiser-Jeep , AM General from 1950 to 1999 and was known simply to the troops that used it as the "Deuce and a Half". It was this design that replaced the WWII GMC CCKW in service.
White Motor Company bought Reo in May of 1957 and Reo became the Lansing Division of White Motors. So while the name tag says White Motor Co., the plant was still known to us locals as "The Reo". In any event, this truck was designed by Reo in 1949 and assembled in the same plant 15 years later. They were still Reo trucks.
