Timeline On 13 April 1889, the metals and mining conglomerate Hoerder Bergwerks- und Huttenverein, under General Director Joseph Massenez, founded “Rheinische Metallwaaren- und Maschinenfabrik Aktiengesellschaft” to supply munitions to the German Empire. Engineer Heinrich Ehrhardt, from Thuringia, established the factory in Dusseldorf and headed it until 1920. Headquartered in Dusseldorf, Rheinmetall AG is an automotive parts supplier and military technology group. Rheinmetall was the tenth-largest European defence contractor in 2011. Rheinmetall AG is a financially strong, internationally successful player in the markets for automotive components and defence equipment. US company Allison Transmission (Hall 5, Stand C460) has teamed with Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) of Europe to supply its Allison 4500 SP fully automatic transmission for the TGS-Mil truck.The Allison 4500 automatic transmission will be offered in the complete family of TGS-Mil 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 trucks, which can be fitted with various bodies according to end users’ specific requirements. Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH, or RMMV, is a joint-venture company between the German companies MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG and Rheinmetall AG to merge their Military Division (MAN Nutzfahrzeuge) and Corporate Sector Defence (Rheinmetall).
